The Tip of Africa Tour takes you to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent.  This is a romantic, magical destination filled with tales of shipwrecks at the meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic oceans.

The Tip of Africa Tour is for the traveler who wishes to go down the road less traveled and make new discoveries along the way whilst enjoying a unique part of South Africa and the world. Enjoy magnificent scenery, extraordinary birdlife, unique fynbos, whale watching, historic towns and delicious wines in a relaxing break in the country.

Tip of Africa Tour Day 1

Depart Cape Town and travel over Sir Lowry’s pass and through the Elgin valley – the Cape’s fruit basket and home to apple and pear orchards as well as wines of elegance.

As you descend over the pass and into the Overberg, you will overlook the Bot River Wine Route. Start off at Beaumont – for a wine tasting, followed by
Gabrielskloof for lunch.

Drive through Caledon and Napier to Bredasdorp, named after Michiel van Breda the first Mayor of Cape Town and father of the Merino sheep farming industry. Stop in at the only Shipwreck Museum in the world and a well-deserved tea break at Bredasdorp Square next to the Information Centre.

Carry on to Arniston named after the British ship wrecked 200 years ago in 1815, or Waenhuiskrans because of the large size of the cave, big enough to house a wagon. The Arniston Hotel, overlooks the historic fishing village of Kassies Baai with its white walls and thatched roofs and the distinctive turquoise ocean.

Overnight: Arniston Hotel

Tip of Africa Tour Day 2 – Today you get the chance to swim in 2 oceans.

After breakfast drive towards Struisbaai, the longest uninterrupted beach in South Africa. Stop off for a swim in the warm Indian Ocean. Continue along the rocky coastal path to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent and the place where the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans meet. If you are feeling adventurous climb up the second oldest lighthouse in South Africa, modelled on the one at Alexandria in Egypt.

A seafood lunch is what is called for in this part of the world. Enjoy a relaxed lunch at Pelicans Café known for their succulent calamari steak, which overlooks the fishing boat at the Struisbaai harbour.

In the afternoon drive to Springfield Farm, in the Agulhas National Park for tea and traditional farm hospitality. Springfield is a national monument, parts of the house date back to 1794. Once owned by Lord de Saumurez, it is one of the most southern farms in Africa and was the setting for well-known South African author Dalene Matthee’s book, Driftwood. (Booking required)

Should you so wish, continue 8 kms down the gravel road to Brandfontein Beach for a memorable walk along the beach or swim in the cold Atlantic Ocean. Return to Arniston

Overnight: Arniston Hotel

Tip of Africa Tour Day 3

After breakfast and maybe even a swim and visit to the cave – depending on the tide time-table, get ready to taste wines from the southernmost wineries in Africa. Starting at Strandveld wines before lunch on the Elim Wine Route – and then followed by lunch at Black Oystercatcher.

Take the road less travelled to Baardskeedersbos – artist’s hamlet where the local art gallery has the best coffee. Arrive at Grootbos in time for afternoon tea overlooking the bay.

Tip of Africa Tour Day 4

Grootbos – A day at leisure to enjoy all that this National Geographic award winning 5 star eco lodge has to offer from flower safaris to rides along the beach.
