Our mission is to dynamically share and connect people and opportunities around the wonderful worlds of Wine, Art and Travel.
Established in 2008, to promote wine tourism, Vindigo Travel seeks to marry the worlds of wine (vino) and art (indigo -a colour of South Africa’s rainbow nation) with a desire to (go) and discover new destinations and experiences.
We cater to individuals, couples, small and large groups. As experts on the ground who are familiar with the local market, allow us to make suggestions based on your interests and budget.
Should you wish to add a safari to the Cape Town leg of your trip we work in partnership with established safari experts and use the best ground handlers to ensure that your highest expectations are met.
Melissa Sutherland – Founder and Director
Melissa Sutherland is the founder and co-owner of Vindigo Travel which is based in Cape Town – South Africa’s vibrant and creative mother city. Passionate about wine tourism, Melissa is a born and bred South African. She is a seasoned traveler and writer who has lived and worked in America and Australia and is conversant in French and German. As a registered professional tour guide specializing in wine and art tours as well as Cape Town and its surrounds, Melissa who was formerly a diplomat representing South Africa in New York during President Nelson Mandela’s presidency, and her team enjoy creating memorable tours with flawless attention to detail.
Her family owned a wine farm in Wellington for many years and Melissa has completed her Certificate Course through the Cape Wine Academy. Her recent book on the South African artist, Frank Spears, was well-received.
Ian Sutherland – Director
Ian grew up in the center of the Cape Winelands. After matriculating at Paarl Boys High, he went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. He met Melissa, whilst living in Johannesburg and working for an engineering company. When they moved to New York he enrolled for an MBA in Finance at Columbia University, and graduated with honors. Since then he has worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York, ABN AMRO Bank in Sydney, and as a financial and operations director in Cape Town. He enjoys mountain biking, travel, reading and writing.
